This submerged MABR membrane module-also described as an EHBR membrane stack-combines gas-permeable hollow fibers with a naturally formed biofilm. Low-pressure air flows inside the fibers, while oxygen passes through the membrane wall into the surrounding wastewater without conventional bubble aeration.
The resulting oxygen gradient supports aerobic, anoxic, and anaerobic zones within the biofilm, enabling nitrification and denitrification in the same reactor. The listed standard membrane material is hydrophobic modified PVDF, with PDMS silicone rubber identified as an optional material.
